Introduction to Cross-Cultural Communication

(Prior attendance on ICOS' "An introduction to Cultural Awareness" course is recommended)

The half-day course is designed to introduce issues of cross-cultural communication to those who work with international students and staff.

Skills in cross-cultural communication are essential in order to minimise problems and misunderstandings that arise from cultural difference.

The course will encourage participants to focus on their communication style and how it is affected by culture. Sometimes what is said is not what is meant - this course will focus on the importance of non-verbal communication signals and the way these affect the communication process.

The course will also highlight ways to improve cross-cultural communication. The course will be interactive and will draw on participants' own experience.
