African students get conference call
African students in colleges, institutes and universities in Ireland have been invited to participate in a first All African Students Conference to be held in Dublin on Saturday 1st May.
The event, which is geared toward the formation of a new student association, is part of a process of community building aimed at fostering solidarity and welfare for African students and those of African descent in Ireland through academic, cultural and social avenues.
The opening address will be delivered by Cllr. Rotimi Adebari, the first African Mayor in Ireland and a current PhD student.
Impetus for the conference comes from an organising committee established in September 2009 to work toward the goal of establishing an African Students Association of Ireland. With this latest step, the committee is actively encouraging participation of the widest number of students in the formation process, which will be the focus of the day's events.
